60×80 Oil on Canvas
My all time favorite artist is the American illustrator Joseph Christian Leyendecker. Active between 1895 and 1951 he made covers and advertisements for companies like Century Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post and Colliers. His works formed the golden age of American illustration.
I have been fascinated by his way of painting for a long time and wanted insight in his way of depicting different textures (especially fabric) and his almost geometric way of portraying faces. Through recreating one of his painting step by step following the same layer construction and using the same materials he would have used at the time I not only got a better understanding of his art style, but also learned a lot useful things to imply into my own art work.
